Come gather here around me
feel my breath under your skin
I'm deadly, only when I'm getting caught

Counting down to zero, I'm a soldier without soul
No mercy, have mercy, no mercy on your soul

Kill by any means necessary
Win by any means necessary
Live by any means necessary
Die by any means necessary

I am born to kill - Judge and condemn
I am born to win - Slay and maim 'em
I am born to live - Fight for glory
I am born to die

Kill - Win - Live - Die

Holy crap. Finally this is done. I slaved for like 4 days over this, straight. I must have clocked at LEAST 30 or more hours. I ended up with something like 95 layers. Haha. Annyway. I think I needed this. I haven't drawn my own stuff properly for a long time, especially old Murcy Boy here. Its been even longer since I drew him by himself. So here he is, Murc in the full. I really like this. I like the ferns. I almost died doing the background, but I like it.
Thankyou *Horsesnhurricanes for this awesome song. Haha You're gold.

EDIT: Yes, he is running on ice. Its uh... Rainforest ice.

If you take this, I'm going to have to stab your eyeballs out. And at the moment, I don't believe that is an empty threat.

Oh, and buy the print! :D And Critique!

Critiques

:icondaggerwrist:
What I love most about this piece is the horse himself. He really has substance and I am a sucker for those shines, which really do look like shines on his coat and NOT weird highlights on plastic/whatever; as many people do them.

The critique I have about Murc is about the mane and tail, of course. The fox-like quality of it that people mention definitely is there, but that doesn't mean that horses can't have luxuriant tails. However, what the problem is with both the mane and tail is that I don't think that every hair would go almost exactly in the same direction, realistically. I know it took you probably a long time to make it that way, but here are a few examples of running horses with their manes flowing (rather thick ones too): [link] [link] [link]

(hope those work)
So, as you see, there IS some organization to the flow, but it's usually not quite THAT organized, if you see what I mean.

Backgrounds are a bitch for me too so I feel your pain, but I may be able to lend some advice as far as how it looks. First of all, yes, the Rainforest Ice XD It's a wonderful idea and I think would have looked great if you maybe included the texture of the dirt beneath the water in certain spots it might have made it more convincing. Perhaps puddles would have been the way to go, like this, with the texture of the ground in there: [link]

Another thing is, if the trees in the background were backlit as you seem to imply, they would probably be a lot darker, as that's the tendency of backlighting to do: [link]

The last thing I have to say isthe coloring of the foliage. The textures are intriguing and lush, but I think that for a rainforest, they may be a tad bit on the yellow side. Try making them a little bit more blue; or, if you want to make a surreal forest with warped coloring, make sure the colors work together. I'm getting a little bit of conflict from the bluish color behind the trees with the yellowish green foliage--especially because I want the foliage to be bluer!

Anyway, there you have it, my two cents. Overall I think you are making a great improvement--I've been watching you for maybe a year and a half or so, maybe longer, and I love the evident improvement, especially n the horses like this! Keep it up.

I love Murc's character design. The strong white markings always catch my eye in every portrait. You've got a fantastic grasp of equine anatomy and your style of lineart - specifically in the facial design - has become your signature. I can almost always pick your work out of a lineup.

Murc's pose is very dynamic and he looks like he's going to plunge right out of the image! I like the action and energy from him in this image.

I like the overall layout of this piece, but it could benefit from more time spent on the background. There's no clear light source and the limited, saturated palette of colors you used on the foliage creates a really busy background that draws away from Murc as the focal point. Since the light looks like it's coming from the same direction as the viewer's line of sight, I'd like to see mostly dark foliage with a few bright areas in the foreground picked out by the light source.

Beautiful equine imagery overall! I'd love to see you challenge yourself more with backgrounds.

Murc´s pose is great. He looks powerful, wild and indomitable. His fur is great shaded.
I think the best part of his body is his head. It is detailed but not too detailed and I really like his eye (horse eyes are so difficult to draw if they should look like real horse eyes).
I think his tail is too thick at the beginning. It reminds be a bit of the tail of a wolf ;).
The wood is great. I would become crazy if I drew so much detailed green stuff.
The light which comes trough the tree trunks is great and makes a good atmosphere.
The water looks more like a mirror because there is no forward current (hope it is the right word) and if it is not very deep one should be able to see the ground of it (stones, sand). The water splashes from Murc´s lifted legs/hooves are missing. But I would be glad if I could draw images in this quality.

I don't think you need to be critted on this dude. It's unreal, it's awesome, I love it. :D Love, love, love. I can vouch for you slaving your arse over it, too. Such colourful conversations we've had on this piece, hah.
Shutup, I know it was a lame pun.

No but seriously, I like how you put the fog over too. It adds relevance to his wet kind of look. I always the horse is wet when a horse is shiny  so to me it makes good sense. I like it.

Yeah so I have to write minimum 100 words in the critique thing to post and I can't really find 100 words to write so I'll post it here:

Absolutely stunning artwork but I think the hairs should smoothed out if that makes sense. The ends of the hair needs to like fade in with the background so it doesn't look like it's been cut with a scissor.

But other than that I can't see anything wrong with it at all. Beautiful artwork.

Wow, thats gorgeous. I love the detail that you but into the background, and I can find like, literally nothing wrong. Absolutely love it, great job.
